Whether you’re celebrating the end of the summer season or trying to cool off after the last episode of Juni Taisen, Love is Like a Cocktail presents a wonderfully refreshing drink this week. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been absolutely DEVOURING the new season of anime, and I’m not mad at what I’m seeing so far! What better thing to do while watching anime than have a cheeky drink to relax with? Luckily, Love is Like a Cocktail, a new animated short series, has got us covered.
The premise of the show is this: A hardworking businesswoman, Chisato, keeps her cool at work. However, when she returns home to her husband, she is finally able to relax and let loose! It helps that her husband is always ready to make her a tasty cocktail. In this particular episode, Chisato finally has a day off where she wants to drink and cuddle with her husband. I mean, honestly though, who doesn’t want to just lie around, drink, and cuddle? Sounds amazing to me!
Luckily, the drink part, at least, is pretty easy to make. This drink is very simple- soda water, orange juice, and sake. The purpose of the drink is to provide something tasty and refreshing that doesn’t have a strong flavor of sake, as Chisato doesn’t like it very much. I wanted to see how it would taste, and if the alcohol flavor would indeed be masked, as Chisato’s husband wanted. Sake, if you’ve never had it, has quite a unique flavor. It’s made from fermented rice and has a musky, full-bodied flavor. It’s not sharp, like vodka, but has a nice mouthfeel.
I whipped this together in a matter of minutes and was pleasantly surprised to find that the sake flavor actually brought a nice, mellow undertone to the bright orange juice and sharp bubbles. I highly recommend giving this a go if you want a refreshing, bright drink. It’s nothing special -just a drink- but an easy, tasty cocktail, especially if all you have is cooking sake on hand.
