Bananas and citrus and honey and milk – whip it all into a drink, and you have something refreshing, comforting, and so, so satisfying! I swear, Chi-chan from Love is Like a Cocktail! is so lucky. Her husband is my dream come true. Have I said this before? I think I have. I’m a hardworking girl myself. I would love it if someone lived at home and made me dinner and fixed me drinks every night and carried me to bed when I fell asleep on the couch.
But hey, enough about my dreams – let’s talk about this cockatil! It’s called a cocktail, but it isn’t actually one, in the sense that it doesn’t have alcohol in it. As a result, it’s a sweet, tasty refreshment, made with wonderful natural ingredients (sans the marmalade) that feels indulgent, like a cocktail, but isn’t actually all that bad. The milk, honey, and banana make this smoothie-esque drink velvety and rich. The orange marmalade I put into this version, in place of the Yuzu jam that is actually in the recipe, adds sweetness I actually don’t think the drink needs. Yuzu is a citrus fruit (kind of like a cross between a lemon and a lime) commonly found in Southeast Asia. Maybe Yuzu jam is popular there, but the only citrus jam, jelly, or marmalade I could find was an orange one, so that’s what I used.
While the drink is fantastic as I made it in the recipe below, next time I’ll definitely add in a splash of lime or lemon juice to lighten it up and add just a touch more complexity to the drink. I think the tangy citrus would pair really well with the creaminess of the drink, and I just don’t think the orange marmalade does a good job of providing that contrast. All in all, though, this drink is pretty darn good. Definitely refreshing and tasty and perfect after a long day’s work!
